Rob and Kathy WelchAll in a Day's Work
September 2007

On Sunday, September 16, 2007, we were driving across I-44 under a load to Chicago. It was a beautiful day with not a cloud in the sky. We were going to fuel at Prime and continue on when a tractor/trailer tanker veered off the pavement in the Westbound "granny lane" at milepost 25. It rolled, twisted and landed on the driver's side in the ditch. My husband, Rob, stopped our truck on a dime, pulling off onto the shoulder. He took off running, hurdled the cable divide in the median and got to the tanker before the dust even settled. Checking on the driver, he asked him questions to keep the driver alert while attempting to pry the door open, seeing the potential for a fire in the tank. A Landspan truck stopped and called 911, staying on the CB to slow traffic down, and soon more cars began to stop and help. Someone brought a crowbar and, with six men helping, they got the door open. After freeing the driver from the seatbelt and steering wheel, two nurses who had happened onto the scene took over first aid. The driver suffered damage to his ribs and the tanker, thankfully filled with liquid dog food, didn't catch fire. Rob's quick thinking, concern, and fast feet were a testament to the care, attention, and safety of Wil-Trans' drivers. As Rob said, "It's all in a day's work!"

Michael Williams"The Extra Mile"
July 2007

Mr. Wilson:

I'm writing to thank you for the assistance I received from one of your drivers, Michael Williams.

As I was driving my wife and children to Omaha early in the morning to take my wife to surgery, she had a severe seizure. After I pulled over, she was unresponsive and my cell phone wouldn't work. I got the attention of your driver, and he immediately called for help. I appreciated that call, but what really impressed me was the way he continued to help. After calling for help, he walked back to talk to us and provide assistance. Seeing our need, he even prayed with us. Then, when the paramedics arrived and began treating my wife, he recognized that my two children might be disturbed by what they were seeing, and he took them aside and kept them entertained and distracted, allowing me to focus on my wife.

Shortly, the ambulance left with my wife, and I drove off with my children to follow. I may never see Michael Williams again, but I am extremely grateful for his willingness to go the extra mile for me and my family. He was just so calm and positive and thoughtful. Thank you for hiring people like Mr. Williams and for giving them the freedom to provide such help, and please thank Michael for me again. I thought you might want to know.

Sincerely,
Ryan Larsen

PS: My wife and family are doing fine.
